"Autumn" - Pat Gelling 1 Nov 07

O, that I could find the words
To tell of everything I see
The wonders of His autumn world,
God's glory in a tree.

The richly pattern'd harvest fields,
The subtle shades of hedgerow ferns:
Bright gleams of berries, grass so green,
And drifts of leaves that twist and turn.

Clear, bright blue skies and golden sun
Or moody, threatening, cloudy skies:
All are gifts that He has made
To inspire our hearts, delight our eyes.

Black lace of trees in silhouette
Against bonfire-bright sunset skies;
Diamond-like stars that stud the night
And harvest moons of pumpkin size.

Soft misty landscapes spread beneath
Pale wash of sky and smudge of cloud,
Or burning bushes, trees aflame
With colour, that would shout aloud -

How glorious is Your autumn world!
Deserving of our thanks and praise:
And heralding, through crisping air
That best of all December days.
